Eye Nut

Eye nuts are internally threaded fasteners with an integrated circular ring (eye), designed to provide a secure lifting or anchoring point when used with threaded studs, bolts, or rods. They are commonly used in lifting, rigging, and material handling applications where safe load attachment and alignment are critical.

Eye nuts are typically forged for enhanced strength and are designed to handle axial (vertical) loads, with certain types suitable for limited angular lifting when properly installed.

Types of Eye Nuts
  • Standard Eye Nut: For vertical lifting applications
  • Shouldered Eye Nut: Designed to accommodate limited angular loads
  • Dynamo Eye Nut: Heavy-duty lifting type with higher load capacity
  • Stainless Steel Eye Nut: For corrosion-resistant environments

Applicable Standards

Dimensional Requirements:
  • DIN 582 – Eye nuts (metric lifting type)
  • ASME B18.15 – Eyebolts & eyenuts (inch series)
  • ISO 3266 – Lifting accessories
  • ASTM A563 / A194 – Material standards for nuts
Material Grades (Commonly Used)

Engineering Applications
  • Lifting and hoisting operations
  • Rigging and material handling
  • Machinery installation and maintenance
  • Marine and offshore lifting systems
  • Industrial and construction applications
Performance & Safety Features
  • High tensile strength for lifting applications
  • Designed for secure attachment with hooks, shackles, or slings
  • Forged construction ensures durability and load integrity
  • Clearly defined Working Load Limit (WLL) for safe operation
Installation & Safety Guidelines
  • Ensure full thread engagement with mating stud or bolt
  • Load must be applied in line with the axis (vertical lifting) unless designed otherwise
  • Avoid side loading unless using shouldered types within limits
  • Regular inspection for deformation, cracks, or wear
  • Never exceed specified WLL
Design Considerations
  • Select correct size and grade based on load requirements
  • Consider environmental conditions (corrosion, temperature)
  • Ensure compatibility with lifting accessories (shackles, hooks)
  • Follow applicable lifting standards and safety regulations
